Energy Efficient Lighting Solutions

Lighting is the most visible electrical system and one of its biggest electricity users, accounting for about 50% of electrical energy use in existing buildings and 30% of use in newer buildings that meet the ASHRAE/IES 90.1-1999 code. Nine out of 10 commercial buildings were constructed before 1986, and only about 20% of the nation’s facilities have been upgraded so far. According to the New Building Institute, advanced controls can reduce lighting energy consumption by up to 50% in existing buildings and at least 35% in new buildings.
